Continue-It postmortem
Song of Morus: Limbo Express is a third person bullethell shooting game. Taoist priestess Song was asked to help the deity of Death to escort his underworld train, and player has to control her to spider-walks on speeding train and fights enemies.
This project is created as a submission for Magical Girl Game Jam #9. It reached its minimum milestone, with barebone game mechanic and two game levels as proof of concept. Although it was quite lack of game content, the game idea overall get a good impression. Therefore after the MGGJ, I decided to continue my development, via another smaller game jam called "Magical Girls FOREVER Continue-It Jam"
This is a 2 month game jam. In my original plan, I wanted to add 2 new proof-of-concept levels. One focuses on dodging environement obstacles, another one focuses on weak enemy swarm. According to my personal history, it usually costs me one month to finish a game level, so 2 months should be enough for 2 game levels. Unfortunately, my schedule was massively distracted by several personal events, and the game core requires more polishing than expected (it still does). In the end of the game jam. I only finish the obstacle level.
So this is what i have done in these 2 months:
1. new game level
2. boss fight change in existing levels
3. score system
4. optimized bullet system
5. better ui and camera for better feeling of orientation
6. music improvement
I still have passion with Song of Morus: Limbo Express, I am satisfied about the game concept and the project scale. Maybe after a rest, I will pick up the project again and extend it more. I hope this project will someday grow to 6 levels, as the gametime, in my opinion, will be enough for demo on Steam.
